Speckled Trout Cabin in Galax, VA is not your run-of-the-mill cabin. It is a retreat created to entice your senses on many levels. The cabin is set in the most beautiful of landscapes, overlooking Chestnut Creek and on the New River Trail. Enjoy peace, relaxation, solitude & the simple pleasures in life often overlooked. The inner sanctuary is delightfully eclectic. A wonderland of hand painted furniture, colorful textiles, creative artwork and fanciful furnishings. We truly want your stay to be unforgettable. In the cozy one bedroom cabin we will provide breakfast goodies for your first morning, like scrumptious melt-in-your-mouth muffins… and always local gourmet coffee samplings & teas. You will be greeted with fresh flowers or plants and lots of candles, for you free-spirited folks. We hope to brighten your day with the unique bohemian, eclectic mix of décor. Galax is the perfect place for a romantic getaway, family vacation, anniversary trip & the cabin makes a splendid writer’s or artist’s soulful retreat.
The cabin sleeps 4 comfortably. The bedroom has a newly upgraded king sized bed & a trendy IKEA wrap-around sofa in the great room converts into a queen sized bed as well. Bed linens, posh comforters, plus extra cozy blankets are also provided. You will be provided with plush towels & robes, unique dishes for your noshes & glassware for your libations. The cabinets are stocked with cooking gear & utensils. There is no need to lug anything along – we provide it all!
To make your leisure time pleasurable, we encourage you to bring bicycles for peddling on the trail along the creek. The trail is 57 miles long and runs from Galax to Pulaski. Feel free to bring fishing poles & some tackle accessories for enjoying Chestnut Creek – VA fishing licenses are required and can be purchased locally. Dannelly Park is located approx. 200 yards from the cabin & has a walking track along with lots of fitness-related equipment plus playground equipment for the kiddos. There is access via a quaint bridge to the Cliffview campground (part of the New River Trail State Park) directly across the creek. So, if you have family with you that enjoys sleeping under the stars, bring them along – they will love it. Click here for more info. on the New River Trail & camping. All is within a very short jaunt through the cabin’s back yard. The cabin parking is horse trailer friendly & the trail allows horseback riding – horses can access the trail from the Cliffview entrance which is ¾ mile from the cabin.
Oh, did we mention that you can bring along your four-footed pals? We allow well-behaved dogs & cats. The porch is fitted with a gate that will keep most dogs contained. Extend the R&R into the evening by grilling on the wrap-around deck & letting the sound of the creek lull you into a well-deserved respite.
Finally, end your day of contentment enjoying the Blue Ridge Mountain breeze while taking delight in the firepit located beside the front deck overlooking the creek. Roast some marshmallows or shake some popcorn over the fire (Jiffy Pop is provided). You will be surrounded by fascinating flora made up of Flowering Dogwood, Black Walnut, River Birch, Hickory, Red Maple, Sweet Fern, Mountain Laurel, Spicebush & Wild Azalea.
